One of the world's best and most famous stallions in racing, Adlerflug, is dead. This is announced by the Schlenderhan Stud, where Adlerflug was based, on 07 April 2021.
Actually, it was a day like any other. Adlerflug covered the morning over a few mares on the stud Schlenderhan. When one brought the stallion then after the covering back into his box, he became restless. A short time later, the imposing chestnut stallion died.
The cause of his surprising death was probably a heart defect, explained Apelt, the stud manager. Not only for the stud it was a financial blow in the face, but also an emotional one.
Adlerflug already drew attention to himself as a young horse.
He was born at the Schlenderhan stud, where he also spent his life. As a three-year-old, he was already able to win the German racing derby in Hamburg. A year later, the Germany Prize added to his account of success.
Among racing experts, Adlerflug was considered a specialist especially on soft and deep ground. After his successful career as a racehorse, he switched to breeding. According to his own statement of the stud on which he was based, he covered almost 350 mares.
Of these alone, several were victorious in the largest racing competitions in Germany.
But such quality also has its price. The stud fee for the chestnut's semen was a handsome €16,000!
The Schlenderhan stud, which is considered the oldest and most successful private racing stud in the republic, would like to remember Adlerflug in the future. Therefore, there is to be a memorial stone for Adlerflug at the stud.
Adlerflug was 17 years old.
