Small pole square VI

MEDIUM

Description

In the center of the riding arena, 4 poles are laid out to form a square. Depending on the length of the poles, they can touch at the corners or be laid out with a small distance between them. The horse is brought to a stop within the square of poles. Here a center turn is ridden. The horse should turn once around its own axis in the smallest possible space without leaving the square of poles. A certain foot sequence or requirements as with a forehand or hind turn are not given here. The square is then left again on a straight path.

Tips and hints

To increase the difficulty, the poles can be placed on top of each other at the corners, making the square smaller and raising some of the poles. Alternatively, two parallel poles can be placed on top of the other two poles, or one side of each of the four poles can be elevated. The square of bars necessary for this exercise is also the basis for the exercises "Small square of bars 1,2,3,4,5". It is therefore a good idea to combine the exercise with one or more of these exercises during the workout.

Training goal

This variation is mainly used to test the leg obedience as well as the attention of the horse. It is also a good way to train the horse's agility and coordination. The limiting poles provide a visual framework and thus facilitate turning on the spot.
