MEDIUM

Description

For this exercise at least 2 poles are required. These are laid out approximately at a 90-degree angle with the open side facing the board, so that a triangle is formed. The poles can now be crossed in walk or trot on the track.

Tips and hints

The difficulty of this exercise lies in the fact that the poles cannot be crossed straight, as is the case with a normal row of poles. However, the railing helps as a lateral orientation possibility. This makes the exercise easier than e.g. in the middle of the riding arena without lateral limitation. The distance between the poles differs depending on the place where the horse is ridden. However, if it is not suitable for the horse, e.g. when trotting, it can be adjusted. The angle of the poles can also be varied. In general, the steeper the angle, the easier the exercise. Especially in the beginning, the horse can be given a little bit more reins to make it easier to balance and "look" at the pole combination. If the exercise with 2 poles works well, the number of poles can also be increased as a variation.

Training goal

The exercise especially improves the horse's concentration and coordination. While riding over straight poles is routine for many horses, sloping poles are often an unusual task and require increased attention.
