Description
First, a cavaletti is placed at the beginning and end of a long side. These are then cantered over on the long course. The canter jumps between the cavaletti are counted out loud (e.g. 4 jumps). After the course has been circled once, care should be taken to pass the cavaletti with the same number of canter jumps as the first time (4 jumps). If this is successful, the next time one less canter jump is ridden between the cavaletti by increasing the number of canter jumps. In the next round, the canter jumps are shortened considerably, so that one canter jump more is ridden.
Tips and hints
For this exercise it is useful to count the canter jumps out loud. If the desired number of canter jumps is not reached, it is not a problem and can be tried again directly on the next long side!Training goal
Riding a targeted number of canter jumps between the cavaletti helps to improve the feeling for the canter and refine the acceptance of the aids. Not only the rider, but also the horse has to concentrate hard. The exercise is very well suited to prepare a precise jump when jumping.
