Breeches

Riding helmet, boots and the optimal riding clothes belong to the basic equipment of every rider. One of the most basic items of clothing for a rider are breeches.

The special thing about breeches

Finding the right breeches does not seem to be a difficult task at first glance: You choose the one you like best and buy it in the regular size. But this can quickly lead to an unpleasant awakening. Because in contrast to conventional jeans, breeches are very different due to their particularly elastic material and the demands placed on them. The most important thing about breeches is their perfect fit. They must fit skintight, but not too tight. They are available in different lengths and sizes, there is the perfect breeches for every figure. But in most cases this also means that you should try on different models to find the right one.

The right fit is crucial

Whether the riding breeches fit optimally becomes apparent when you have enough freedom of movement without the fabric creasing. If they are too tight, this restricts the flexibility on the horse's back and leads to a stiff and crooked fit. Riding breeches that are too wide can cause unpleasant friction points and sore spots. Stitches on the inside of the thighs can also chafe while riding.
In general, it is advisable to order the trousers one size larger than you normally do. Depending on the model, they can be narrow or wide in length, width, thighs and calves. Ideally they should end just above the ankle.

Flexible material and different trimmings

Breeches are no longer just functional, but also fashionable. In various colours and designs you always have a good figure on your horse. Especially important is the material the trousers are made of. It should be very elastic to ensure the best possible freedom of movement. Dirt-repellent, breathable fabrics are also an advantage, which makes the trousers easy-care and robust. Riding breeches differ from others by their special trimming, which ensures a firm fit in the saddle. This can be made of leather or other non-slip materials. A distinction is made between all-leather breeches, where the leather trimming extends from knee to seat, and knee-leather breeches, where the trimming is only in the knee area. The current trend is towards breeches with silicone trimmings.
Which variant is the most suitable for the individual depends on personal taste and riding style.
The perfect breeches should be functional and fit well. This does not mean, however, that they cannot be chic at the same time. Manufacturers now produce breeches in all imaginable colours and designs.
Finally, each rider decides individually on his or her "perfect" breeches.
