Connection and leaning errors

By leaning is meant the soft and steady connection between the rider's hand and the horse's mouth. The neck should always be the highest point, the nose-front line should be at or before the vertical.
Anything that contradicts this is considered to be a fault in the saddle and bridle.

The forms of the faults are:

  • Horse comes behind the reins/ Horse rolls up/ Loose leaning
  • Horse comes over the bridle/ Lift out/ Go against the hand
  • Horse holds on to the neck/ Tight leaning
  • Horse on the rein
  • Changing dependence
  • Horse throws itself in the neck
  • False bent in the neck
  • Open horse mouth
  • Teeth grinding
  • Tongue fault

All faults in the leaning and reins are punished with a deduction of points, especially in dressage competitions, but also in style and young horse jumping. Within the scope of the training of horse and rider, mistakes in the leaning should always be taken seriously and corrected as quickly as possible.
