Short turn

MEDIUM

Description

This exercise is a hind turn, but performed directly from the movement (medium walk or trot) without pausing. The horse turns 180 degrees. In doing so, the hindquarters step in a small semicircle on the track. The turning point is on the inside hind leg. The forehand is led across the inside of the track to the other side. The forelegs cross in the process. During the turning movement the horse steps only sideways, not forward. If the exercise is started at a walk, it continues at a walk after the turn. If you start at a trot, you trot again afterwards without losing the flow of the movement.

Tips and hints

During the turn, the horse should under no circumstances take a step backwards, as this would cause it to withdraw from the aids. A step forward is also undesirable, but represents a lesser error.

Training goal

Just like the hind turn, the short turn serves the purpose of collection, especially by moving the hindquarters in a narrow space. The reaction to the forward-lateral driving aids is promoted and the permeability of the horse is improved. In addition, the hindquarters are activated.
