Julien Epaillard wins third Worldcup stage

He already snatched the winner's ribbons at the World Cup stages in Lyon and in Madrid this season and he was also ahead on Sunday in Amsterdam: Julien Epaillard, number three in the current FEI World Ranking, galloped away from the competition in the jump-off of the World Cup stage in the Netherlands with Donatello D'Auge (by Jarnac), bred by his wife, after 42.04 seconds.
Eight pairs had qualified for the jump-off in the fight for valuable World Cup points for the final in Omaha in April. Among them was the only German rider, Daniel Deusser, with his super careful Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z (by Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve). In the jump-off from jump one to jump two, the two of them really picked up speed, but the ten canter jumps they were aiming for didn't quite fit, Tobago added another half a canter jump and the bar at obstacle two fell. Bad luck for Deusser, who thus slipped to seventh place in Amsterdam, but moved up to third place in the World Cup ranking with now 70 points.

As the last rider in the jump-off, the 23-year-old Edouard Schmitz with the Holsteiner Quno (by Quo Vados) tried to steal the victory from the French rider. And he was close: After a great round and a spirited 43.44 seconds, the Swiss rider galloped into the finish and was able to celebrate an outstanding second place in this World Cup leg. Just like the week before in Leipzig, third place went to the Brazilian Yuri Mansur with his 15-year-old sport partner Vitiki (by Valentino) and a time of 44.42 seconds.
One out of the placings was the winner of the previous day: Hansi Dreher. In the saddle of Elysium, there was a drop in the round. Jana Wargers with the Holsteiner Limbridge (by Limus) and Marcus Ehning with Priam du Roset (by Plot Blue) suffered a similar fate. Philipp Weishaupt and Zineday (by Zinedine) had eight penalties in the end.
Julien Epaillard has now taken over the lead in the World Cup ranking from Henrik von Eckermann with a total of 92 points. Daniel Deusser resides in third place ahead of Kevin Staut and Gerrit Nieberg. The eighth and ninth places are held by Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and Marcus Ehning.
