About Mauricio

Mauricio Neumann has dedicated himself entirely to the sport of show jumping. At only 18 years of age, the young man from Mexico can already boast a considerable sum of successes. For example, he won the Nations Cup with the Mexican team at the international Nations Cup tournament in New York, or just recently placed in a 155cm show jumping competition in his Mexican homeland.

Mauricio got into riding at an early age. "I've been riding since I was four years old," he says. His parents already cultivated a passion for horses. So it was already preordained that their son would also climb into the saddle one day.
Neumann himself will graduate from a Mexican high school this year. When we ask him how he can combine school and riding, he just smiles: "It's all a question of planning," says the Mexican. He tells us that a normal day starts at 6 a.m. for him. After getting up, he jogs "between 10 and 12 kilometers." That keeps him fit. From 8 a.m., he then sits in school until 3 p.m.. After that, of course, he goes straight to the stable to see his horses. There he rides and trains his sports partners until the evening.
The Nations Cup winner organizes his training in many different ways. He works his horses mainly in dressage. He only jumps when it is really necessary. Then his Mexican trainer, Javier Guerra, is always at his side.
"Before an important show, we gymnastize the horses a lot and never jump them higher than 130cm. For me, it's more about the feeling that my horse gives me. So I can then also respond more individually to its needs before the tournament. "I work with the KISS system," Neumann tells us.
Here, KISS does not stand for an interpersonal affection, but for the English term "keep it simple." He learned this from his German trainer and mentor Steffen Hauter. The young Mexican not only has a trainer-pupil relationship with Hauter, but also a friendship. "I've known Steffen for many years and I'm also a loyal customer. I usually spend every summer in his stable in Germany and train with him. Unfortunately, this was not possible last year due to Corona. That makes me very sad, of course," the young show jumper explained to us. Neumann regularly buys horses from Hauter. Here, he mainly focuses on younger horses. "Of course, they are also a little cheaper," the young show jumper replies with a smile. In return, he invests more time and passion in training them. Neumann also sees the future of show jumping in such a concept. When buying himself, he pays particular attention to the size of the horse and the quality of the canter. "I usually look for a horse that is a little bit smaller, with a little bit smaller canter. These are then often faster in the course itself and you definitely need that. And of course scope," he says, describing the attributes he looks for in a horse.
Besides Hauter, Mauricio Neumann also has another role model, Marcus Ehning. Neumann admires his riding style and management. In a good rider, the young show jumper sees a special degree of discipline, ambition and down-to-earthness. About himself, Mauricio Neumann says that he himself has little talent by nature. "I have earned everything through hard work and, above all, belief in myself." In the future, the young Mexican wants to build on his previous successes and remain loyal to the equestrian sport.
