Henrik von Eckermann looked like the sure winner for a long time in the main jumping competition of the day at the World Cup leg in La Coruna: With the mare Glamour Girl (by Zirocco Blue) and a time of 60.42 seconds, he had comfortably taken the lead in the 1.50m jumping competition for the Caixabank Trophy. Until he was overtaken on the final line. Harry Charles shattered all dreams of victory. After only 58.18 seconds, the Briton in the saddle of Billabong du Roumois (by Mylord Carthago) was done with the course and was able to enjoy 33,000 Euros prize money in the main jumping competition of the day.
Behind von Eckermann, the Spanish rider Jesus Garmenndia Echevarria took third place with the Holsteiner Callias (by Companiero). After his victory the day before in his home town of Riesenbeck, Philipp Weishaupt also took off in La Coruna with Coby (by Contagio) and secured fourth place and thus a safe starting place in the World Cup show jumping competition on Sunday. Daniel Deusser and his Bingo Ste Hermelle (by Number One d'Iso) did similarly well in the race to fifth place. Marcus Ehning and A la Carte NRW (by Abke) also delivered a flawless round in eleventh place.
Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and Messi van't Ruytershof also jumped clear in the GP Qualifier and only just missed out on the placings. On the other hand, the rider from Northern Germany had been able to secure fifth place with Chaka Chaka (by Casall) in the preceding time jumping competition over 1.45m.
