Gerrit Nieberg overtakes Richard Vogel in the World Cup in Leipzig

It was exciting right up to the last second: And the audience went wild at the highlight on Sunday, the World Cup jumping competition over 1.60m, in the sold-out Leipziger Messe-Halle. After all, twelve pairs had won their ticket for the jump-off with great clear rounds in the round. Among them were six German riders: Marco Kutscher with Aventador S (by Armitage), Richard Vogel with the nine-year-old Hanoverian mare Looping Luna (by Pikeur Lord Fauntleroy), Jana Wargers with Limbridge (by. Limbus), Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and Messi van't Ruytershof (by Plot Blue), Marcus Ehning with Priam du Roset (by Plot Blue) and Gerrit Nieberg and Blues d'Aveline CH (by Baloussini).
Marco Kutscher was the first rider to return to the course and also in the jump-off the pair remained without any faults and took the lead for the first time. However, this did not last long. Richard Vogel and Looping Luna made up a lot of ground and crossed the finish line after only 37.08 seconds. Janne Meyer, Marcus Ehning and also Jana Wargers all let a pole roll into the sand and were no threat to Richi Vogel.

Someone else took over: Gerrit Nieberg. The Rolex Grand Prix winner from Aachen is on a roll. At the moment almost everything seems to be going his way. No matter which horse he is riding, he jumps from one victory, one top placing to the next. And it should be the golden one again in Leipzig. Under the cheering shouts of the audience, Nieberg let his Swiss grey run, especially on the final line. With success. After only 36.55 seconds the journey was over for the two in Leipzig and the World Cup victory in the bag.
"I think this is the first time I have beaten Richi," laughed the winner after his triumph. He had of course watched his opponent's ride beforehand, fancied certain chances. With his victory, he is safely qualified for the final in Omaha in April with 53 points, just like Daniel Deusser, currently in fourth place with 60 points.
Richard Vogel, who had won the World Cup leg in Stuttgart, is also suddenly well in the running with his second place. In the overall ranking he is currently in tenth place after Leipzig and 37 points, so a place in the final at the World Cup is within striking distance: "I didn't expect that at all. I'll have to make a new plan now. Maybe I'll start at the World Cup stage in Gothenburg, we'll see", Vogel reflected after his second place in the World Cup. The plan was actually different. On Monday, he will return to Wellington, where 14 horses are waiting for him.
Pius Schwizer took third place with Vancouver de Lanlore (by Toulon) ahead of Yuri Mansur and Vitiki (by Valentino). Marco Kutscher came fifth, Jana Wargers, Janne Meyer and Marcus Ehning placed eighth, ninth and tenth.
In the end, however, the great mood was somewhat spoiled. One of the ribbon children came under the wheels of a carriage that had driven the guests of honour and the arena. Fortunately, the girl, nine-year-old Rosalie from Leipzig, escaped with a scare and a few bruises. The mood was naturally in the cellar afterwards and there was no big award ceremony. That was a shame, especially for the winner Gerrit Nieberg.
