Lausanne/SUI (fn-press). This special year, the FEI World Equestrian Federation will again honor equestrian personalities for their outstanding achievements. Who will receive the FEI Award in the end can be decided by the worldwide equestrian community. There are four candidates in each of five categories, including the German Olympic champions Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (dressage) and Julia Krajewski (eventing) as well as the junior double European champion Greta Busacker (eventing). Voting is still possible until October 17.

The two German Olympic champions Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Julia Krajewski will compete in the Peden Bloodstock FEI Best Athlete category against the Swedish show jumper Peder Fredricson and para-rider Sir Lee Pearson from Great Britain. The award is a tribute to the equestrian athlete who has demonstrated exceptional ability and elevated the sport to a new level over the past year.

In the Longines FEI Rising Star category, which recognizes equestrian athletes between the ages of 14 and 21 who demonstrate exceptional athletic talent and dedication, Greta Busacker is joined by two Dutch riders, 15-year-old vaulter Sam Dos Santos and 20-year-old dressage rider Marten Luiten, as well as 14-year-old Mexican show jumper Jimena Carrillo Watanabe. If she wins, Greta Busacker will succeed her mother Ingrid Klimke, who won the FEI Award in the Best Athlete category last year.

Other categories include the Cavalor FEI Best Groom Award for the behind-the-scenes hero who provides the best possible care for the horses in his or her care, the FEI Against all Odds Award for an inspiring personality who has defied his or her equestrian ambitions while overcoming challenges and obstacles, and the FEI Solidarity Award for a project, person or organization that has dedicated its skills, commitment and energy to advancing equestrian sport. . Elections are made in three steps: Based on internal suggestions from the FEI family, four candidates each are shortlisted by the FEU and submitted for a public vote. The result from this counts for 50 percent of each, with the remaining 50 percent of the votes coming from a jury.
