Extended canter jumps

Prolonging the canter jumps can be seen as a preliminary stage to canter enhancements such as medium canter or strong canter.
Horse and rider should be introduced to the increased frame extension and the energetic thrust of the hindquarters in the reinforcements.
Extending the canter jumps should be developed gradually along the line and held until the end. Rushing of the horse is not desired. The rider must not attack the horse with his aids that are driving forward. Extending the canter jumps is the result of an interplay of forward driving thigh aids and halts. The horse should always carry itself in a good self-supporting position in order not to get on the forehand.
Extending canter jumps is required in Class A.

Possible faults:

  • Horse hurries away
  • Horse falls on forehand
  • Little frame expansion
